Richard Thomson, SNP MP for Gordon, has welcomed the launch of a £25 million fund dedicated to the wedding sector and its supply chain. In December, it was announced the industry would receive a support package worth £15 million.  This has now been increased by a further £10 million ahead of applications opening later this week.

Launching on Thursday, January 28, the fund will provide one-off grants up to £25,000 for eligible businesses in the sector affected by the pandemic, including venues, photographers, caterers and suppliers. It will be managed across Scotland by the country’s three enterprise agencies – Scottish Enterprise, South of Scotland Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

Commenting, Mr Thomson said: “I welcome this announcement from Finance Secretary Kate Forbes and the increased level of support which these businesses will now be able to access.

“Weddings and events play a huge role in the tourism and hospitality sector and in attracting people to visit Scotland. The current necessary restrictions have made trading conditions very difficult and I’m pleased that the Scottish Government has responded favourably to the sector’s appeals for help.

“The Scottish Wedding Industry Fund highlights the Scottish Government’s determination help as many businesses as possible in this important sector of our economy and will play an important role in supporting the long-term recovery of Scotland’s economy.”
