Gordon MP Backs Supermarket's Foodbank Support

Gordon MP Backs Supermarket's Foodbank Support

Published date : 16 July, 2021

Gordon Constituency MP Richard Thomson has backed Tesco’s Summer Food Collection in support of the Trussell Trust and FareShare.

The collections are taking place in Tesco’s Superstore and Extra stores and the supermarket is asking customers to donate long-life food to help the charities support children and families in the community this summer.

Tesco will top-up all of their customers’ donations by 20% in the form of a cash donation to the charities to assist them in their work.

Each store will be allocated a collection point for either FareShare, which supports hundreds of frontline charities and community groups including children’s holiday clubs, breakfast clubs and food pantries; or a local food bank which is part of the Trussell Trust’s network, providing emergency food parcels to families in crisis.

Commenting, Richard Thomson MP said:

“I welcome the efforts by Tesco to support the Trussell Trust and FareShare, both of whom do very important work.

“However, no-one in a country as prosperous as Scotland should be dependent on food parcels. Although Gordon is one of the wealthier parts of Scotland, it’s important to remember that there are significant numbers of people struggling on very low incomes in our community.”
