Gordon MP Reaffirms Commitment to Local WASPI Women
Local SNP MP Richard Thomson has reaffirmed his commitment to the Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) campaign with a New Year pledge to continue to work in 2022 to ensure justice for the women in Gordon Constituency who are affected.
During 2021, the findings of an investigation by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, condemned the UK Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for “maladministration” in relation to changes to women’s state pensions.
The Ombudsman’s findings vindicated the campaign by WASPI and condemned the DWP for failing to provide “accurate, adequate and timely” information about changes to the state pension age for women.
Commenting, Richard Thomson MP said:
“Since being elected as an MP in 2019, women from across Gordon have been in contact with me about the quite outrageous position in which they have been left by the UK Government.
“There are thousands of women across the North-east who have been badly impacted by the UK Government’s failure to treat them fairly and the WASPI women have my full, unequivocal support. The UK Government really now needs to act urgently and do the right thing by these women who have faced, and are facing, financial struggle though no fault of their own.
“I have said before, the solution to this is in the UK Government’s hands and it needs to be fair and fast. This campaign is far from over and I know the WASPI women will not rest until they get a positive outcome. In that desire, they have my strong backing.”
