MP Steps in to Help Local Firefighter's Mission to Ukraine

Published date : 14 March, 2022

Gordon MP Richard Thomson has stepped-in to try to assist local firefighter Mark Allan and colleagues from the Scottish Emergency Rescue Association (SERA) in their efforts to deliver four refurbished fire appliances for use in Ukraine.

Mr Allan, a Crew Manager at Huntly Fire Station, travelled to Ukraine last year as part of a team delivering six appliances, PPE equipment and training on behalf of SERA and is getting ready to travel again but has hit a delay with the V5 forms for the appliances from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).

Commenting, Richard Thomson MP said:

“Mark and his colleagues at the Scottish Emergency Rescue Association do a tremendous amount of good work in buying-up redundant fire appliances and getting them refurbished for use in other countries, often driving them to their destinations themselves.

“Their current mission to Ukraine is extremely important in the circumstances and the least I can do is to try to get the DVLA to expedite the necessary paperwork for exporting these vehicles abroad.”
