Gordon MP Richard Thomson has tabled a Motion in Parliament congratulating leading North-east businessman Stanley Morrice on being honoured with an MBE for services to Scotland’s food and drink sector

Gordon resident Mr Morrice is chair and managing director of a number of global businesses in the energy industry, shipping and food retail and wholesale sectors, and the honour recognises his role at the forefront of driving sustainable food and drink production in the North-east of Scotland.

Fraserburgh-born Mr Morrice chairs the food, drink and agriculture board at Opportunity North East (ONE), the private sector catalyst for diversification and growth across the region.  He is playing a leading role in the delivery of Seedpod, a £21 million investment in the food and drink industry to create a centre of excellence for sustainable manufacturing and production at Scotland’s Rural College campus at Craibstone, scheduled to open in 2023.

Commenting, Richard Thomson MP said:

“This is a well-deserved recognition for the immense contribution which Stanley Morrice has made to not only the food and drink sector in the North-east, his contribution to Scottish business and the economy but also, importantly, his commitment to mentoring and supporting the next generation of up-and-coming business talent.

“I congratulate him on his success and I am pleased to also table a Motion in Westminster recognising his work and commitment to North-east business.”

Note: Text of the Motion, which will go ‘live’ on the Order Paper after the current Parliamentary Recess, states:

That this House congratulates Mr Stanley Morrice on his being awarded an MBE for his services to the food and drink sector; recognises his role at the forefront of driving sustainable food and drink production in North-east Scotland; notes his leading role in the delivery of Seedpod, a £21 million investment in the food and drink industry to create a centre of excellence for sustainable manufacturing and production at Scotland’s Rural College campus at Craibstone, Aberdeen, scheduled to open in 2023; and thanks him for the huge amount of work he has done in mentoring and nurturing the next generation of business leaders and wishes him continued success.
