THOMSON - Sector Development Action Plan is a Missed Opportunity Once Again to Promote Hydrogen in Agriculture

THOMSON - Sector Development Action Plan is a Missed Opportunity Once Again to Promote Hydrogen in Agriculture

Published date : 28 July, 2022

Gordon MP Richard Thomson has said the publication last week by the UK Business and Energy Secretary of the Sector Development Action Plan for hydrogen strategy is another opportunity missed to promote investment in hydrogen technology in agriculture.

Mr Thomson is a strong supporter of the Scottish Cluster Campaign, a cross-community, cross-business group which aims to create a unified voice for Scotland to progress along our decarbonisation journey.  The MP also backs North-east farmers who have a strong interest in the farming sector getting involved in the potential which hydrogen technology can bring to the industry and also allow it to fully play its part in reducing emissions.

Commenting, Richard Thomson MP said:

“I am disappointed that in choosing to launch a sectoral action plan that, once again, the role the agriculture industry can play in the potential for hydrogen technology has been overlooked.

“I know from meetings and discussions with North-east farmers that the enthusiasm and willingness to explore the benefits this new technology can bring to both the industry and the environment is there, but encouragement from the UK Government seems to be sadly lacking to date.

“However, I do welcome the appointment of the UK’s first ‘Hydrogen Champion’ by the government and I will certainly be making an early approach to her to ensure that the potential for farming to contribute to the hydrogen strategy is on her radar.”
