Thomson Calls for General Election Following PM's Resignation

Published date : 21 October, 2022

INDEPENDENCE THE ONLY ROUTE TO ESCAPE CONSTANT WESTMINSTER CHAOS

Gordon MP Richard Thomson has said that a General Election is now a "democratic imperative", following Liz Truss' resignation yesterday.

The SNP MP warned that the ongoing Conservative infighting proved once again that independence was the only route to escape the constant chaos at Westminster and Conservative governments people in Scotland did not vote for.

Commenting, Richard Thomson MP said:

"It was inevitable Liz Truss would have to go after the damage she's inflicted - but merely swapping leaders of a broken Conservative government is not enough.

"A general election is now a democratic imperative.

"The UK is in a state of constant crisis and long-term decline.  With all the Westminster parties signed up to the economic pain of a hard Brexit and austerity cuts, it is clear that ordinary people will be the ones paying the price for the complete ineptitude of the Conservative Party.

“We need a General Election, not yet another unelected Prime Minister.  And Scotland needs to get out of this mess.”
