Gordon MP Highlights Tips for Older People to Stay Safe and Well Over the Festive Period

Published date : 12 December, 2022

Gordon MP Richard Thomson has highlighted the ‘Winterwise’ campaign by Independent Age which provides tips for older people to stay safe and well this winter.

Commenting, Richard Thomson MP said:

“It is important – in the winter months particularly – that the vulnerable individuals of our communities are protected and supported.

“Independent Age has a range of useful resources to ensure that you and your home are ready for the festive period. Their Winterwise guide provides helpful tips to older adults for staying warm, staying safe and staying well. This includes managing energy costs, ensuring you heat your home to at least 18 °C, what to do in the case of a fall, and managing your mental well-being.

“As a community, we should make an effort to check in on our older neighbours to ensure they are safe and well. This might include spreading grit on their driveway in case of icy conditions, picking up their supplies at your local shop, or popping in for a chat.”
