Depute First Minister Speaks at SNP Burns Supper in Inverurie

Published date : 24 February, 2023

Depute First Minister John Swinney MSP was the main speaker and guest of honour at East Aberdeenshire SNP’s Burns Supper held last weekend in Inverurie, the first after an absence of three years due to the pandemic.

Gordon MP Richard Thomson chaired the evening’s proceedings, while Gillian Martin MSP delivered the Toast to Scotland. Kenny Hutchison proposed the Toast to the Lassies, which was replied to by Mid Formartine councillor Jenny Nicol.  Recitations were provided by Doric enthusiast and former Aberdeenshire councillor Cryle Shand and Cllr Louise McAllister gave the Address to the Haggis in fine style.

Commenting, local MP Richard Thomson said:

“We were delighted to secure Depute First Minister John Swinney as our main speaker for this event, which has been hugely missed over these past three years so it was great to be able to hold an in-person event once again.

“John Swinney received a very warm welcome from the assembled guests, a measure of the high esteem in which he is held both within and outwith the SNP.

“The turnout was excellent and was a great celebration of the life and work of our national bard, Robert Burns.  A huge thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of the night and especially to our guest speakers from far and near.”
