Local MP Hosts Cost-of-Living Advice Event in Inverurie

Published date : 15 February, 2023

Gordon MP Richard Thomson hosted a special Cost-of-Living Advice event in Inverurie to provide specialist support in reducing energy bills and accessing benefits.  The event took place last Friday in Inverurie Town Hall.

Mr Thomson says the current squeeze on household incomes will force many people to make some difficult choices and represents the 'single biggest challenge' facing families today.

At the event, constituents were able to talk face to face with organisations able to help them navigate the difficult times ahead.  Among those organisations which attended and provided expert advice were Centrica/Scottish Gas, Social Security Scotland, Home Start Garioch, NW Aberdeenshire Citizens’ Advice, Home Energy Scotland, StepChange Debt Charity and North Aberdeenshire Foodbank.

Commenting, Richard Thomson MP said:

"I am very grateful to the organisations who responded positively to my approach and their staff and volunteers who gave freely of their time to be part of last Friday’s event.

“I know from feedback that many of those who visited the event looking for advice and information found it very useful.  It was also useful for the organisations themselves from the point of view of providing a networking opportunity with others working to provide support.

“No one in Scotland today should have to contemplate the harsh choice of putting on the heating or feeding their children.  That is completely unacceptable and it's essential that people across Gordon Constituency are given the correct information and are signposted to groups that can help.

"For anyone who was unable to attend, I and my staff team are available to assist or provide signposting to organisations who can help as appropriate.  I can be contacted on [email protected], or call on 020 3545 2236.”
