Local MP Welcomes Asda Cafe Initiatives to Support Customers this Winter

Published date : 07 November, 2023

MP for Gordon Constituency Richard Thomson has welcomed Asda Supermarkets’ winter initiatives aimed at supporting customers and communities this winter.

Full details of the initiatives are listed below but include the return of the ‘Winter Warmers’ deal for over 60s to enjoy soup, a roll and unlimited tea and coffees for just £1 in any Asda café, and also free hot drinks for uniformed emergency responders on shift at any Asda café or store with self-service facilities.  Asda’s ‘Kids Eat for £1’ offer also continues.

Commenting, Richard Thomson MP said:

“Asda are to be commended for stepping-up once again to help customers and the communities in which they are based in the fight against the cost-of-living crisis which continues to affect far too many people.

“I am sure these initiatives will be welcomed by many people who will appreciate the opportunity of a warm space to enjoy some low-cost refreshment this winter.”

Details of the initiatives from Asda as advised to MPs are as follows:

  • We’re introducing a brand new offer of free hot drinks for emergency responders, on shift and in uniform, available at any Asda café or store with a self-serve hot drinks machine, including Asda Express and Asda on The Move stores. The initiative is open to paramedics, police officers and fire fighters and is available all day, every day, including in 24-hour stores.  This is our way of saying thank you to our emergency responders for their commitment to keeping our community safe, and the offer will run from 1st November to the end of December.

  • We’re bringing back our popular Winter Warmers deal, which offers people aged 60 and over the chance to enjoy soup, a roll and unlimited tea and coffees for just £1 in any Asda café, available now until the end of February 2024.  Last year we served more than 650,000 of these meals, and we hope it will prove just as impactful this winter for those who need it most.

  • We’re continuing our hugely popular ‘Kids Eat for £1’ offer in our Asda cafés, to help make dining out an affordable and enjoyable experience for parents and their children. Since the launch of the offer in June 2022, we have served more than 2.6 million £1 meals to support families during the cost of living crisis.

  • Selected Asda stores will run a ‘Community Cuppa’ campaign in our cafés, creating space for community groups who may otherwise struggle to meet due to rental costs or high energy costs. Spaces will be available on weekdays in November and December from 2.00pm to 6.00pm and all community group members who visit will receive unlimited free tea or coffee.
