SCOTTISH GOVT ONLINE SITE COLLATES HELP AND SUPPORT

Local MP Richard Thomson has urged residents and businesses in the North-east, who may be struggling with the cost of living crisis, to use a Scottish Government online portal designed to collate help and advice.

The website - https://costofliving.campaign.gov.scot/ - aims to provide support with paying bills, claiming benefits and managing debt, as well as support for families, older people, disabled children and adults, and those who care for them.  It helpfully signposts to additional government advice and support resources, as well as specialist third-parties.

The service comes as millions across the UK continue to grapple with high energy bills, food costs and a teetering economy following disastrous economic mismanagement from the UK Government.

Commenting, Richard Thomson MP said:

“This online advice hub has been active for some period of time now, and it’s a vital tool in the armoury for anyone looking for help and advice during this cost-of-living crisis.

“I urge residents and businesses to make full use of available crisis funds, social security payments and any financial relief schemes available.  After all, any social security system worth its salt is there for a rainy day - and for so many across the North-east, it’s currently a downpour.

“It’s clear: the UK Government has the necessary powers to act to help curb excessively high food and energy bills and stabilise the economy but are asleep at the wheel.  Meanwhile, the Scottish Government will use the limited powers it has to assist people through this difficult time.”
